Staff, professors and a recent VTSU graduate discuss the unique experience of going to college as a multicultural, multilingual student.

The tabby will become a "Doctor of Litter-ature" in recognition of his contributions to the Castleton campus, where he has become a regular visitor for the past four years.

In a Dec. 22 letter, the group, named “Concerned Alumni Faculty Staff & Students of the VSCS” or “CAFSS-VSCS,” called on lawmakers to provide more oversight of the Vermont State Colleges Board of Trustees.

The board of the Vermont State Colleges says it continues to back a plan to cut and consolidate some programs and reduce faculty at Vermont State University. Board support came after hearing from faculty and students who urged it to reconsider, including student government groups who have voted no-confidence in the board and administration.

This is the first semester Vermont Technical College, Castleton University and Northern Vermont University are merged under the Vermont State University banner. But it hasn’t necessarily been the smoothest transition. So, with classes back in session this week after the fall break, we visited VTSU’s Johnson campus to see how students are holding up.

This week marks the beginning of classes at the newly created Vermont State University. It comes after three years of work merging Castleton University, Northern Vermont University and Vermont Technical College. But the transition has not been without turbulence.

Parwinder Grewal had held the job for less than a year and was tasked with stewarding Castleton University, Northern Vermont University and Vermont Technical College toward their official unified launch as Vermont State University on July 1.
