Vermont didn't quite make it through the year without any vehicles getting stuck on the infamous Smugglers Notch segment of Route 108. It's still a record low.

After two deaths this summer, Stowe Mountain Rescue says it's important to remember that high rainfall leads to high danger.

Rains flooded parts of Stowe's Gold Brook last Sunday, rendering some roads in the eastern part of town completely impassable.

Route 108 is notorious for snaring tractor-trailers in its winding, boulder-filled path.

VTrans announced the closure Tuesday, citing winter conditions making it too dangerous for travel.

The curved barriers will hopefully prevent large trucks from getting stuck, and make the extraction process quicker if they do.
