A native of the Bronx, Samara Joy became entranced by classic R&B as a child and cut her teeth as a singer in her church’s gospel choir. And while her family history is deeply musical—her grandparents helmed the Philadelphia gospel group the Savettes, and her father, the musician and songwriter Antonio McLendon, has produced, composed and arranged his own astounding original work—she didn’t delve into the jazz tradition until college at SUNY Purchase. During her studies there she won the 2019 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, which introduced her to the larger jazz scene as a rising star to watch. She was heard, by audiences and critics alike, as a masterful interpreter of jazz standards and a rightful heiress of the sound, technique and charisma that defined her jazz heroines—including Vaughan, Betty Carter, Abbey Lincoln and Carmen McRae.

Joy released her self-titled debut on the Whirlwind label in 2021, followed a year later by Linger Awhile, her breakout Verve debut, of which Down Beat said, “With this beautiful recording, a silky-voiced star is born.” The album earned her a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album in addition to a headline-making win for Best New Artist. A deluxe edition of the album was released, as well as the EPA Joyful Holiday, which took home Grammys for Best Jazz Vocal Album and Best Jazz Performance in 2025. Her latest Verve album, Portrait, which Joy co-produced with the veteran trumpeter/bandleader and multi-Grammy winner Brian Lynch, showcases the intimate, soulful chemistry she’s developed with her touring band, earning her an NAACP Image Award in 2025 for Outstanding Jazz Album and the GRAMMY for Best Vocal Jazz Album in 2026.Portrait also spotlights her burgeoning gifts as a lyricist, in ingenious arrangements that meld her thoughtful words with music by Charles Mingus, Sun Ra and her late mentor Barry Harris.

Families with young children (recommended age 5 and younger) are invited to gather with a Museum educator in our historic summer camp building, the Roost, as we read some of our favorite stories about Lake Champlain and summer adventures on the water out loud for all to enjoy. Stories will be read as a group and there will also be coloring pages and crafts available afterwards.

Storytime meets every Friday from May 29–October 16. This program is free to attend with no registration required.

The Roost is situated off of a gravel path at the back of the Museum green. The ramp at the back of the building is accessible over grass. There is a high threshold at the entrance of the ramp. For accessibility requests please contact us by email at info@lcmm.org or by phone at 802-475-2022.

History lies in the depths of Lake Champlain, waiting to share its secrets and stories. In 2026, we’re opening up our vaults and taking a DEEP DIVE into the past with Museum experts, archaeologists, historians, and educators in our free evening conversation series!

Join us every other Wednesday from June through October for a free “Deep Dives” talk. Each evening will include an expert presentation and time for questions and conversation at the end.

Deep Dives is free to attend with registration. A complimentary drink from Shacksbury cider is included with your free registration.

Designed to help adult learners build advanced workplace-ready technology skills, BTC's Tier 2 Digital Literacy course is intended for learners who already have basic computer experience and are ready to strengthen their confidence using Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, cloud-based tools, and cross-platform navigation. Each 1.5-hour session provides hands-on, practical instruction using Google Drive, Docs, Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, and Slides, with clear connections to how these skills transfer to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Join us online or in-person from the Springfield Vermont Town Library every third Friday (October 2025 through September 2026) for a 60-minute chair yoga practice. You'll learn some accessible movements that you can do right from your seat, leaving you feeling mobile, grounded and focused. We'll pay special attention to practices that boost our brains and soothe our nervous systems, so we can take the benefits with us between sessions.

Head to the library or tune in live from wherever you are in the world to follow along. Those who register online will also get access to the recordings so they can watch classes again and again.

Although this is a full English afternoon tea made popular during the Victorian Era with scones, jam, clotted cream, finger sandwiches, and tea cakes, there will be readings and discussion of tea the way Jane Austen would have enjoyed it during the Regency Period.

The 25th Gilfeather Turnip Festival and Gilfeather Turnip Contest will be held Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m in Wardsboro, VT. Free admission. Rain or shine! Locations are at the Town Hall, the Wardsboro Public Library and the Big Tent – all on Main Street.
