A dazzling dance tribute to the timeless songs of Burt Bacharach, bursting with joy and live music.
Longtime Hop friend Mark Morris brings the music of Bacharach to life with a wistful and heartfelt homage to the composer's chart-topping songs. As always with Morris' choreography, the music is live and the dance leaps from the stage.
A towering figure of popular music, Bacharach is known for his soaring melodies and unique orchestrations influenced by jazz, rock, and Brazilian music. His longtime lyricist, Hal David, offers unsentimental, often bittersweet lyrics. Leading the charge with her remarkable voice is the extraordinary singer, actress and Broadway star Marcy Harriell. The band reimagines iconic hits like "Walk on By", "I Say a Little Prayer" and "What the World Needs Now" with lush musical arrangements by Ethan Iverson.
"The Look of Love" follows the sensational success of the Beatles tribute "Pepperland"—another collaboration between Morris and Iverson that ran to sold-out houses at the Hop in 2019.
Mark Morris is a Montgomery Fellow and Hop Resident Artist. During his time on campus he will visit classes, have meals and discussions with students and faculty and explore campus resources to inspire future projects.
