Grace Church presents Rutland Area Chorus and Orchestra in Handel’s Messiah on Sunday December 14, 2025 at 3:30 pm and 7:00 pm. The concert is directed by Dr. Alastair Stout, Director of Music Ministries at Grace Church in Rutland. Soloists are Helen Lyons of Burlington, Amy Frostman of South Burlington, Ryan Mangan of Rutland and David Rugger of Wallingford. The performance will include all of Part 1 and the Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah and John Taverner’s God Is With Us.
On Sunday, December 14 at 4:00 pm, the Choir of St. Stephen’s Church on the Green, Middlebury, will offer Darkness to Light: A Preparation for Christmas with Lessons and Carols. The event is free and the public is cordially invited to experience this unique service offered as we approach the winter solstice and the longest night of the year. Throughout history, the Church has kept the season of Advent as a time with a mixture of both solemnity and rejoicing, and has often used candlelight as a symbol of hope in a world that has dark moments.
This presentation of Darkness to Light was developed and used at the great English Cathedral at Salisbury and at St. James Episcopal Cathedral in Chicago. Its goal is to capture that ancient Advent spirit of longing and hope. It begins in darkness and, as the service unfolds, the church is transformed from darkness to light. It is structured around the 6th century “Great O” Antiphons (O Come, O Come, Emmanuel), readings from the Old and New Testaments, and choir anthems and carols ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century. Music by J.S. Bach, Palestrina, Christopher Aspaas, Rosephanye Powell, Philip Moore, Otto Goldschmidt, Paul Edwards, Sally Beamish, Joanna Forbes L’Estrange, and Paul Manz.

Come and enjoy Middlebury's annual Messiah Sing, a community tradition since 1984, hosted by the Congregational Church of Middlebury, UCC, beginning at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 21, 2025.
Singers, instrumentalists, and all who enjoy music are warmly welcomed to sing or play along — or simply come to watch and listen — as we hear soloists from the local community, and together we all sing many favorite choruses from The Messiah by George Frederic Handel. Jeff Rehbach conducts.
Solo arias will be accompanied by chamber music players David Gusakov and Emily Sunderman, violins; Bill Pierson, viola; Dieuwke Davydov, cello. Jeff Buettner and Ronnie Romano play harpsichord and organ. All the players who come will join in accompanying the hundreds of audience singers to create a glorious sound for the choral selections.
Music scores are provided (or bring your own) for singers. We also have orchestra parts for strings, flute, oboe and bassoon.
This event is sponsored in part by the Middlebury Community Music Center. Contact Jeff Rehbach for more information.

With his signature beard and African headgear, Billy F. Gibbons is instantly recognizable and best known as the centerpiece of ZZ Top.
BFG is widely regarded as one of the world’s finest guitarists working in the blues-rock idiom. The sound originates from the uncanny knack to squeeze unheard of sounds out of the electric guitar with the blues, pop, R&B, country, gospel, western, hillbilly and West Africa. That BFG down ‘n dirty growl is unmistakable heard on such hits as “La Grange,” “Sharp Dressed Man,” and “Cheap Sunglasses."
Billy F. Gibbons is much more than an iconic guitar slinger with a monumental length of chin whiskers… He’s an internationally recognized collector of guitars and cars, noted in the best-selling book, Rock + Roll Gearhead.
