We're jumping ahead to the year 2050 to imagine what life will be like in Vermont by mid-century, and looking back from an imagined future to talk about how Vermont can address climate change and other challenges.
We're talking about how the decades between 2019 and 2050 could change Vermont's economy and small towns, the farms and working landscape of the state, the energy system, health care, and more. And we'll try to predict the problems we'll have solved by 2050 and which new ones the Vermonters of the future may be confronted with.
Talking us through Vermont in 2050 are:
- Paul Costello, executive director of the Vermont Council on Rural Development who's worked on the Council on the Future of Vermont.
- Kyle Clark, an engineer and president at Beta Technologies,describes an 11-minute flight from Burlington to Stowe on an electric aircraft in 2050.
- Neale Lunderville, former Vermont Secretary of Transportation and Administration under Gov. Jim Douglas and past General Manager of Burlington Electric Department.
- Robin Lunge, Green Mountain Care Board member and former legislative counsel who's worked on health care reform in Vermont under Gov. Peter Shumlin.
- Liz Gleason, program manager for the Vermont Farm and Forest Viability Program under the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board.
- Christopher Kaufman Ilstrup, executive director of the Vermont Humanities Council.
