The CEO of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Dr. James Weinstein, has announced he will be retiring from his position at the end of June 2017.
Dr. Weinstein announced to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock board a year ago that he would be stepping down at the end of his contract; but the public announcement was released on Monday.
Officials say his decision to retire is unrelated to the hospital's recent financial troubles.
Anne-Lee Verville is the chairwoman of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Board of Trustees. She will also co-chair the committee to find Weinstein's replacement.
Next week, a search firm working with the board will be talking to nurses, former trustees, professors at the Geisel School of Medicine and other members of the community to create a job description.
Verville told VPR they'll be asked: “What do you think we should be looking for in the new candidate? What are the characteristics that we want to find in this new CEO?”
The search for Weinstein's replacement will be nationwide, but will also consider internal candidates.
