If you’re out hiking in the woods and you see a small furry animal a little smaller than a housecat, you might be seeing a marten. Martens are small carnivores in the weasel family and they were extinct in Vermont by the early 1900’s. But their populations appear to be rebounding.
Chris Bernier is the furbearer project leader for the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department. He spoke with Vermont Edition about the jump in the marten's numbers.
