Sanders Welcomes Long-Stalled Confirmation Votes

Senator Bernie Sanders is welcoming an agreement that clears the way for long-stalled confirmation votes on several of President Barack Obama's nominees.

But Sanders warns that more must be done to end gridlock in what he called "a seriously dysfunctional Senate."

The comment followed an agreement that clears the way for Senate confirmation of several of the presidents until-now stalled nominees, including those to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Department of Labor and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Sanders says he also expects quick confirmation for new members of the National Labor Relations Board.

The left-leaning independent says next on the Senate's agenda should be big changes in its filibuster system. Under this system, 60 of 100 votes are needed for major legislation to pass.

Senator Sanders will be our guest today at noon on Vermont Edition.
