Clips and Conversations: Angelo Madsen
Angelo Madsen, an associate professor of Time-Based Media at the University of Vermont, is a multi-media artist whose films have been screened around the world, winning awards at many prestigious festivals. His work has been recognized with both Guggenheim and United States Artist fellowships.
Madsen describes his projects as spanning “documentary filmmaking, narrative cinema, essay film, media installation, sound and music, performance, text, and collective practices,” discordantly juxtaposing present-day footage with Super 8 home movies, animation, staged rituals, and ethereal voice-overs.
For this event, Madsen talks with John Killacky about his career and shares clips from his work, including North by Current, broadcast on PBS’s POV series and screened with VTIFF, a new short on Babe’s Bar in Bethel, and a preview of his newest documentary, A Body to Live In, about body modification maverick Fakir Musafar.
