Would you ride the bus if it were more like Uber?

A pilot program in Montpelier lets riders request bus service with an app called Via.

Live call-in discussion: A pilot project in Montpelier is rethinking public transit. Called MyRide, it's a two-year experiment in "microtransit"—a trend in public transportation focused on small-scale, on-demand solutions. The goal is to get more people to use public transit by making buses more user-friendly, like replacing fixed-route bus options with a service that allows people to book rides when and where they need them from a smartphone app or through a call center.

This hour, a panel of transportation experts discuss the pilot project and other ways to improve public transit in Vermont's towns and rural communities.

Our guests are:

  • Ross MacDonald, public transit planner/coordinator at Vermont Agency of Transportation
  • Elizabeth Parker, shared mobility liaison at Sustainable Montpelier Coalition
  • Stephen Falbel, president of Steadman Hill Consulting who specializes in transportation planning

Broadcast live on Friday, Feb. 18, 2022 at noon.
