New Leader Named For ANR; State Adoptions Are Up; Teaching Children About Death

Lake Champlain's cleanup will be a major focus for the new ANR secretary.

The new leader of the state's environmental agency is no stranger to the cleanup effort for Lake Champlain. Julie Moore is the newly named Agency of Natural Resources secretary and she's among our guests on the next Vermont Edition.

Moore lead the Clean and Clear program for ANR that focused on reducing phosphorous level in Lake Champlain. Several environmental groups have praised her appointment by Governor-elect Phil Scott.

State adoptions

Also on the program, we'll learn about the surge in adoptions of kids who are in state custody. Wanda Audette, the director of adoption at Lund, joins us to explain why adoptions are up this year and what it means for kids who are in the Department for Children and Families system. Lund is a private non-profit that partners with the state to facilitate adoptions.

Talking to kids about death

Two well-known Vermont artists have collaborated on a children's book to help kids navigate their about death. Writer Julia Alvarez and printmaker Sabra Field join us join us to discuss their new book, Where Do They Go?

Until March 2021, she was host and editor of the award-winning Vermont Public program Vermont Edition.
