Stinging nettles can be harvested and eaten if you're careful! We're talking with experts about gathering wild edibles.

Spring is when a Vermonter's fancy lightly turns to ramps. Also fiddleheads, nettles and more. We're getting tips on foraging for edibles in the great outdoors, and how to do it in a sustainable way.

We're joined by longtime expert food gatherers Nova Kim and Les Hook

Plus, shiitakepalooza! We learn how to grow shiitake mushrooms with some love and some logs, from shiitake farmer Nick Laskovski of Dana Forest Farm in Waitsfield.

Also on the program: on Dorothy's List this year we've discussed the books nominated for for Vermont’s Dorothy Canfield Fisher children’s book award. Today, VPR's Amy Noyes reveals the winner.

Broadcast live on Mon., May 2, 2016 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
