Plans have recently been presented for large-scale redevelopment of two big malls in Burlington and South Burlington. At the same time, in malls across Vermont, stores are struggling and closing, leaving the malls as shells of their former selves. We're checking in on the retail landscape in the state - both indoor malls and other kinds of shopping centers - what's changing and where it's headed.
We're joined for the conversation by David White, founder and president of White and Burke, a commercial real estate brokerage, development, and consulting firm. We're also checking in with Don Sinex of Devonwood Investors, owner of Burlington Town Center mall, and with Gordon Dritschilo of the Rutland Herald, who has been covering the latest on Rutland's Diamond Run Mall.
Also on the program, when Governor Shumlin voiced his support for legalizing recreational marijuana, he made a specific exception: edibles -pot infused or cooked into foods. But in Vermont, the medical marijuana dispensaries already have edible products for their customers. We're talking to Bridget Conry, Operations Manager for Champlain Valley Dispensary, about how they know how much THC is in their products, as well as how they talk to customers about the effects.
