No matter how you choose to give thanks, food plays a central role in how we have come to celebrate Thanksgiving. For some, each dish come with its own story, and a recipe passed down generations. Others treat the menu each Thanksgiving as a brand new adventure: the perfect opportunity to try out new flavors and combinations on your friends and family.
When you look at your Thanksgiving table, does it have a traditional turkey, or something more like Tofurkey? Is there one particular dish you couldn’t do without? A new twist on the classics you’re dying to try?
Our guests are Food Editor Jim Romanoff of Eating Well Magazine, Andrea Chesman, whose new book is The Backyard Homestead Book of Kitchen Know-How: Field-to-Table Cooking Skills, and MariaLisa Calta, author of Barbarians at the Plate: Taming and Feeding the American Family. They will be with us in preparation for the big day!
Also this hour, Vermont's funniest comedian! The Vermont Comedy Club in Burlington hosted a multi-day competition last week, and we talk with the winner, 22-year-old Kendall Farrell.
And, The Grift recently played in VPR's Performance Studio for our music video series Live From the Fort. We hear a track from their set.
Broadcast live on Monday, Nov. 23, 2015 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
