At the beginning of this year, Governor Shumlin used his State of the State address to discuss Vermont's opiate addiction problem. The legislature followed up with a comprehensive bill addressing treatment, prosecution, and policing.
We look at the progress the state has made in addressing opiate addiction this year... and the work that still needs to be done. We talk to Governor Shumlin and to Barbara Cimaglio, Deputy Commissioner for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Programs at the Department of Health. We also hear from Dr. Nels Kloster, an addiction psychiatrist working in Brattleboro and Bennington.
And we look back on VPR's Traces project with Digital Reporter Taylor Dobbs.
