What’s Next For Burlington’s Gun Laws?

Seth Perlman

Burlington passed three gun resolutions that must now be approved by the State Legislature.

On Tuesday, Burlington voters approved three resolutions that changed the city charter regarding gun laws.

They give police the power to seize guns when there is reasonable suspicion of domestic violence, ban firearms on the property of institutions where liquor is served and would require all guns to be under lock and key when not in possession of their owner.

Evan Hughes, vice president of the Vermont Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs, and Gun Sense Vermont President Ann Braden react to the results and explain what needs to happen next to change Burlington’s charter.

Also on the program, VPR's Bob Kinzel provides an update on key bills as the Legislature heads into Crossover Week.

Plus, we go along for a ride with Ed Blechner of Addison County and his sled dogs.

Broadcast live on Thursday, March 6 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.

Ric was a producer for Vermont Edition and host of the VPR Cafe.

I’m looking into how aging in Vermont impacts living essentials such as jobs, health care and housing. And also how aging impacts the stuff of life: marriage, loss, dating and sex.
