Roadside stands, farmers markets, and local food restaurants abound in Vermont, and one reason for that abundance is the Farm to Plate Strategic Plan. The Legislature mandated this plan in 2009, and since that time, there has been a statewide effort to coordinate all aspects of the local food system- from agricultural jobs, to land availability, to meat processing, to farmers markets. It's a big effort and it has started to bear some fruit.
We'll check in on the progress of the Farm to Plate Plan four years later with Ellen Kahler, executive director of the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund, the organization tasked with overseeing the initiative. We'll also hear from John Sayles, chief executive officer of the Vermont Foodbank, Tara Kelly, executive director of the Rutland Area Food and Farm Link, and Janice St. Onge, president of the VSJF Flexible Capital Fund.
Also in the program, for the first time, a female lacrosse player has been recruited to a men's team. We'll talk to Devon Wills, who played lacrosse at Dartmouth, and has been asked to try out for a men’s Major League Lacrosse team, the New York Lizards.
Broadcast live Tuesday, Jan. 21 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
