A bike, food and arts hub has been proposed for the site of the former Wine Gate Restaurant in St. Johnsbury, seen here on Aug. 27, 2020.

The Caledonian Record recently reported on the corporate restructuring decision to shutter JCPenney after its four decadesin St. Johnsbury's Green Mountain Mall. But as the only local department store prepares to close, one group is hoping to start up a multi-business hub to draw more foot traffic and dollars to the area.

Staff writer Todd Wellington spoke to VPR about the group, known as the Trailhead Collective, and its very preliminary plans to turn a vacant former restaurant space at the end of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail into a hub for arts, bike riders and food.
