State police say they expect to wrap up a criminal investigation of Mill River Union School principal Andy Pomeroy in the next day or two. No arrests have been made no details have been made public on what the investigation concerns.
Pietro Lynn, the lawyer representing the Rutland South Supervisory Union, says a complaint was made alleging misconduct by Pomeroy. “We do not know if those allegations were true or untrue,” says Lynn. “But we take them very seriously and we respond as a matter of protocol and place the employee on paid administrative leave.”
Once the state police finish their investigation, Lynn says the supervisory union will begin its own internal investigation.
Pomeroy has worked at Mill River Union since 2010. He was placed on administrative leave on Jan. 15 and could not be reached for comment.
Dave Younce, superintendent of the Rutland South Supervisory Union, said in an email to parents last week, “in the case of situations that put students or staff in the way of potential or real harm, we are committed to immediate action upon notice in those situations.”
Younce goes on, “in this situation, being made aware of a specific concern prompted immediate action on the part of the RSSU administration. Mr. Pomeroy will remain on leave until any investigation has run its course and proper next steps have been determined.”
School board members say they’ve been given very little information concerning the investigation and are waiting to hear what it uncovers.
Deb Fishwick, longtime principal at the Shrewsbury Mountain School, is assuming the role of principal at Mill River Union.
