The second half of the legislative biennium doesn't begin until January, but lawmakers held a special meeting Tuesday at the Statehouse to talk about the state's multi-million dollar budget shortfalls.
Vermont Edition discussed the meeting, the shortfalls and the timeline to address them with Vermont Press Bureau chief Neal Goswami.
The 2016 fiscal year budget reveals a $40 million gap that must be addressed by June. In the 2017 fiscal year budget, there is a projected a $58.5 million gap. The main driver of the continuous budget shortfalls is the state's Medicaid program, says Goswami.
