Remember scavenger hunts? Your team had to find a bunch of crazy items or perform wacky activities in order to win. In the digital age, scavenger hunts have gotten a lot bigger, and a lot more complicated.

Louisa Stein is a professor in the Department of Film and Media Culture at Middlebury College. For the last four years she’s been participating in something called the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen. It involves teams of competitors from around the world who communicate with each other online. Last year, Stein’s team Vatican Cameos- won the competition.

Vermont Edition spoke with Louisa Stein about GISHWHES.
