Levitt AMP Brings Phillip-Michael Scales to Final Friday
The Levitt AMP St. Johnsbury Music Series presents Nashville-based singer/songwriter Phillip-Michael Scales, on Railroad Street, at 7pm, on July 25th, as part of July’s Final Friday festivities by Discover St. Johnsbury. The concert, presented by Catamount Arts, starts at 7 and will cap off a full afternoon of free, all-ages fun in downtown St. Johnsbury beginning at 4pm.
Leading a new generation of great American soul singers, Phillip-Michael Scales was born in Michigan, came up in Chicago, and now calls Nashville home. His genre-busting style, dubbed “dive bar soul,” feels like a modern take on Stax-era soul, authentic blues crafted from blood, sweat, and tears, and rich with the stories of a life lived hard on the road.
Self-managed and with no label behind him, Scales played 308 gigs in one calendar year, toured Europe, released his debut album “Sinner Songwriter,” performed on the Ellen Degeneres Show, and opened for Keb’ Mo’ before catching the attention of Grammy-nominated producer Dan Knobler (Allison Russell, Lake Street Dive), with whom he made his latest album, “Good to Be Here.” His current tour takes him all over the United States through March of 2026.
The Levitt AMP St. Johnsbury Music Series brings 11 free, family-friendly summer concerts to two St. Johnsbury locations: weekly at Dog Mountain, on Sundays at 5pm; and monthly on Railroad Street, for June, July, and August Final Fridays, at 7pm.
Monthly Final Fridays include over 30 free, family-friendly activities beginning at 4pm, when Railroad Street closes to vehicular traffic and welcomes food trucks, portrait painting, sidewalk sales, art strolls, dance demonstrations, games, live music, and more. The fun goes beyond Railroad Street up Eastern Avenue where shops and businesses welcome revelers with ice cream, dance parties, fine art, wine tastings, and additional attractions.
