An Amazing Week Of Live Music

Rising star Leyla McCalla, playing this week in Burlington and in Montreal

It's almost scary to realize that there will be live performancers this week in the VPR listening area by (for starters) Greg Brown, Arlo Guthrie, Dougie MacLean, Leyla McCalla, and Hot Tuna.  We'll be previewing these shows, playing some marveloous new releases, and basking in the fall colors!

This program will air on Sunday October 7th from 7-10 p.m.

This week's calendar announcements:

Johnny Irion will be performing a CD release concert at Café Lena in Saratoga Springs on Thursday October 11th. Café Lena will also be featuring Jack Williams on Friday October 12th.

Randolph native Myra Flynn will be performing a CD release concert at the Chandler Music Hall on Saturday October 13th. 

The Whallonsburg Grange Hall hosts fiddler Dana Lyn and fingerstyle-guitarist Kyle Sanna performing music from “The Coral Suite” on Sunday, October 14th at 7 p.m.

Woodchuck’s Revenge will be at Middlebury farmer’s market on Saturday October 13th at 9 a.m.

Leyla McCalla will be performing at the UVM Recital Hall in Burlington on Friday October 12th and at the Casa del Popelo in Montreal on Saturday October 13th.

Red Hot Juba will be performing selections from their new CD at the Burnham Music Series, 52 River Rd., Lincoln, on Saturday, October 13th at 7:30 p.m.

Mary McGinniss & the Selkies will be performing at the Lamp Club Light Shop in Burlington on  Friday, Oct 12th beginning at 7 p.m. 

Hiroya Tsukamoto, a one-of-a-kind composer, guitarist, and singer-songwriter from Kyoto, Japan will perform at the Music Box in Craftsbury on Saturday October 13th at 8 p.m.

On Sunday, October 14th from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m., Shelburne Museum hosts The West through Other Eyes, an exploration of the complex history of the American West, Buffalo Bill, and the myth of the cowboy. A performance by Dom Flemons will be a highlight of the day’s activities.  Music begins at 5 p.m.

The Twangtown Paramours will be playing at Brandon Music on Saturday October 13th at 7:30 p.m.

Richie Stearns and Rosie Newton will be performing on Thursday October 11th at Bread and Butter Farm in Shelburne beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Pianist Jacqueline Schwab will performing a solo concert of vintage music from South America at a house concert in Guilford, VT on Thursday October 11th. For more information, please call 617 775-7553.

On Saturday, October 13th,  Downtown Bob Stannard and Those Dangerous Bluesmen along with The Unknown Blues Band, with special guest Dave Keller, will join forces for a historic Vermont Blues at the Vergennes Opera House. Music begins at 7:30 p.m.

The Suitcase Junket will be performing at the Skinny Pancake in Hanover, NH on Thursday October 11th at 8 p.m.

There will be a contradance on Saturday October 13th at Tracy Hall in Norwich.  Nils Friedland call, and music will be provided by  Gordon Peery, Jane Orzechowski, and Deanna Styles.   Dancing begins at 8 p.m.

Arlo Guthrie will be at the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center on Wednesday October 10th.

Dougie MacLean will be performing at the UVM recital hall on Wednesday October 10th ,

The Chandler Music Hall presents Acoustic Hot Tuna on Thursday October 11th at 7:30 p.m.

The Colonial Theater in Bethlehem, NH presents Greg Brown on Friday October 12th at 8 p.m. 
 

Robert Resnik has been the host of All the Traditions, Vermont Public's folk and world music show, since 1996. He is the winner of the 2019 Herb Lockwood Prize In the Arts, an honor that rewards the pinnacle of arts leadership in Vermont and is the recipient of the 2022 Margaret L Kannenstine Award for Arts Advocacy from the Vermont Council of the Arts.
