'Tis Never The Season For Impaired Driving

From 2011 to 2015, impaired driving was the cause of 20 percent of all major car crashes in Vermont.

The scary prospect of encountering impaired drivers on Vermont's highways and biways is more pronounced during the holidays. So what can be done to combat it?

The Vermont Agency of Transportation just concluded a day-long seminar to look at new testing and detection methods aimed at reducing the number of accidents caused by impaired driving. And they heard about the impact of marijuana legalization in Colorado on impaired driving in that state.

We'll discuss what was learned at the seminar from Trish Conti, Director of the Vermont Forensic Laboratory, and Lieutenant John Flannigan, Commander of the Vermont State Police Traffic Operations.

Also on the program, eight years ago, Lindsay and Scott Courcelle started a market garden of vegetables, herbs, and flowers in Shrewsbury. The Courcelles tell their story of farming to the Vermont Folklife Center for a series called,  "Growing Food, Growing Farmers" that's focused on the Rutland County agricultural community.

Broadcast live on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
