An apple orchard in the Champlain Islands has been around since Ulysses S. Grant was president: Allenholm Farm in South Hero.
Sally Pollak, who writes for the Savorvore section of The Burlington Free Press, visited the 275-acre farm of which 25 are dedicated to apples trees.
Founded by the Allen family in the 1870s, the seven generations since have worked the farm and raised a crop each season. Many of the people who work the land alongside the family live in Jamaica when it's not apple season, and have worked at the Allenholm farm for decades.
