Vermont has a number of diners scattered across the state, serving everything from coffee and pie to a turkey stuffing omelet.
The first diner in the U.S. was in Providence, Rhode Island says Melissa Pasanen, a contributor to the Savorvore Section of the Burlington Free Press. It was a place for people who worked odd-hours to get food.
Today diners are still popular places for people to go for an early breakfast or quick lunch on the road.
“They’re retro, they’re cool looking, they serve that old-school comfort food that most people at least once in a while like to indulge in,” Pasanen says.
