Thursday's filing deadline for statewide and legislative candidates signals the start of Vermont's Campaign 2016.

Thursday was the deadline for candidates to file for Vermont's statewide races and for the legislature. With many officeholders leaving the government or seeking new positions, Campaign 2016 promises to be wide open.

The lineup for the major parties' statewide candidates is now set, with competitive primaries in the Democratic race for governor and lieutenant governor and the Republican gubernatorial contest.

Terri Hallenbeck of Seven Days, Anne Galloway of VTDigger.org, and VPR's Pete Hirschfeld form a reporters roundtable to look at these races and we'll discuss the overall outlook for the general election.

Broadcast live on Friday, May 27, 2016, at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.

Ric was a producer for Vermont Edition and host of the VPR Cafe.
Bob Kinzel has been covering the Vermont Statehouse since 1981 — longer than any continuously serving member of the Legislature. With his wealth of institutional knowledge, he answers your questions on our series, "Ask Bob."
