The Jay Peak fraud allegations have drawn attention to a visa program for foreign investors called EB-5, by which a foreign citizen who invests $500,000 in a U.S. business can receive a green card. On the next Vermont Edition, we look at the complicated and sometimes surprising visa programs that provide pathways to legal immigration to the United States. Our guest, Burlington immigration attorney Leslie Holman, says parts of the immigration system are antiquated and in need of reform.
Also in the program, Vermont's out-of-state prisoners. Last summer, all of Vermont's 236 out-of-state prison inmates were moved to the privately operated North Lake Correctional Facility in Baldwin, Michigan. But changes in Michigan's own corrections system could mean that Vermont needs to find a new place to house those prisoners.
