How 911 calls are answered could be facing changes in Vermont.

In a series of conflicting conversations and press releases, it appeared that Vermont's Department of Public Safety was getting out of the 911 call handling business. But a joint communique from Public Safety and the Enhanced 911 Board said that might or might not be the case.

All this back and forth has left many Vermonters wondering what would happen when they placed an emergency call.

Gary Taylor, chair of the E911 Board, and Public Safety Commissioner Keith Flynn join us to clarify their positions and map out solutions for Vermont's 911 future.

Also on the program, the town of Bethel has developed a unique way to provide its residents with "continuing education." VPR's Steve Zind reports from Bethel University.

Broadcast live on Mon., April 11, 2016, at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
