The hallways at the Vermont Statehouse will be filled on Tuesday with senators, representatives, their families — not to mention lobbyists and activists. And Vermont Edition will be there too, broadcasting live from the Cedar Creek Room for the opening day of the legislative session.

We look at the major issues facing lawmakers this session, like a re-examination of Act 46, a projected budget shortfall related to Medicaid, a paid sick leave bill and a push to legalize marijuana. Our guests include House Speaker Shap Smith, Senate Minority Leader Joe Benning and Rep. Chris Pearson, a Progressive caucus leader. We also get an update on the debate over removing Sen. Norm McAllister from his seat as he faces criminal charges, and analysis of how politics will shape the major policy issues this session.
