When you're looking for an apartment in Vermont, it's difficult finding something that fits your price range and space requirements and is in the right location. Now imagine facing discriminatory tactics.
A new report by Vermont Legal Aid shows that discrimination was evident in nearly half of the test cases.
Housing Discrimination Law Project Director Rachel Batterson of Vermont Legal Aid reviews the findings of the report. Then Angela Zaikowski, owner of the Vermont Apartment Owners Association, and Ted Wimpey, Fair Housing Project director for Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity, discuss Vermont's fair housing laws and steps that need to be taken to reduce rental discrimination.
Also on the program, State Senator Peter Galbraith provides an update from Iraq on the latest developments in that country.
Plus, we speak with Vermonter Fred Sargeant, who is being honored at the New York City Gay Pride March this Sunday for his activism on gay rights in the 1960s and '70s.
