The long-awaited spring has arrived. And for herpetologists, it’s like baseball’s opening day.
Snakes, salamanders, toads, turtles and frogs are either on the move or about to venture out from their winter hiding places. Choruses of critters will soon be in full voice, and we’ll all be reveling in the songs of peepers.
Jim Andrews, Coordinator of the Vermont Reptile and Amphibian Atlas, brings into focus what’s going on around us.
Also on the program, are we just hearing more about ticks in this area then from years earlier, or has there really been a spread of these arachnids? Lyndon State Biology Professor Alan Giese shares his research on the spread of the blacklegged (or deer) tick and the pathogens they carry.
And in Putney, excitement is growing for tonight’s premiere on PBS of the Ken Burns’s film ‘The Address.’ The documentary was filmed at Putney’s Greenwood School and celebrates the students there.
