Ruling Outlines Vermont Yankee's Final Year

VPR
The Public Service Board's 98-page ruling was released Friday, March 28, 2014.

The Public Service Board has given the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant the ‘ok’ to operate through the end of 2014, at which point Entergy, the plant's owners, says it will shut down Vermont Yankee.

Friday’s ruling was welcomed by the state, which had worked extensively to reach a Memorandum of Understanding with Entergy about the plant's final year of operation. But the PSB ruling was criticized by some anti-nuclear activists, who say the board capitulated to a company with poor track record. Tuesday on Vermont Edition, we learn more and get your reaction.

Also in the program, an update on a story we brought you last Fall. In November, the Champlain Housing Trust embarked on a unique experiment. They bought an entire motel in Burlington to use as emergency short term housing for homeless people. We hear from the CHT's Michael Monte about how that project has fared this winter.

And, we read notes from you in our virtual mailbag.

Broadcast live on April 1, 2014 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
