April Come She Will

Now that it's (finally) starting to feel like spring, we welcome in the always-surprising month of April with new releases, old favorites, and upcoming live concerts ranging from the Sierra Leone Refugee All-Stars to Dougie MacLean!

This week's calendar announcements:

The Sierra Leone Refugee All-Stars will play selections from their new Cumbancha recording at Higher Ground in South Burlington on Mon. April 7th at 8:00 p.m.  Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Central Vermont bluegrass/americana quintet, Haywire, will play a benefit concert to support Royalton Community Radio on Sat. April 12th at 7:30 p.m. at the Tunbridge Town Hall.

Bramblewood  ( Carol Hausner, Danny Coane & Colin McCaffrey) will perform at the Whammy Bar/Maple Corner Store in Calais on Fri. April 18th at 7:00 p.m.

Patrick Fitzsimmons and friends will be performing for the Burnham Music Series at Burnham Hall in Lincoln on Sat. April 12th at 7:30 p.m.
 
Michele Fay and Tim Price will be performing at the Old Firehouse Concert Series in Tinmouth on Fri. April 11th  at 7:30 p.m.

Young Tradition Vermont is taking a group of 18 young musicians to Northumberland in England and Scotland on a music and cultural exchange. On Sat. April 12th  the Young Tradition Touring Group will be presenting its final concert prior to leaving for England. The concert will start at 7:00 p.m. at All Souls Interfaith Gathering in Shelburne.

The Stray Birds will perform at the Café Lena in Saratoga Springs, NY on Sun. April 13th at 7:00 p.m.  They will also be performing  at the Valley Players Theater in Waitsfield on Wed. April 9th at 8:00 p.m.

Dougie MacLean will perform at the Town Hall Theater in Middlebury on Wed. April 9th.  
Doors open for his concert at 7:30 p.m. and the concert is at 8:00 p.m.

The Vermont Fiddle Orchestra will perform a contradance and their annual Spring Concert on Sat. April 12th at the Bethel Town Hall in Bethel, Vermont.  The event includes a family contradance at 4:00 p.m. with caller David Kaynor.  There will be a potluck dinner at 5:30 p.m., and the concert will start at 7:00 p.m.  The special guest soloist is Vermont fiddler Mary Lea.

UVM Lane series presents the Teetotalers, featuring Martin Hayes, John Doyle, and Kevin Crawford, at the UVM recital hall in Burlington on Fri. April 11th. There will be a special pre-concert talk at 6:30 p.m., and the performance will begin at 7:30 p.m.
 
Woodchucks Revenge will play the Rutland Indoor Farmer’s Market on Sat. April 12  at 10:00 a.m.

Bennington’s Meetinghouse Café will present a special event on Fri. April 11th when Lou and Peter Berryman travel from Wisconsin to join Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen in Bennington. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. The Meetinghouse Café is located at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 108 School St. in Bennington.

The Full Circle Festival: will be held in Burlington on April 11th -13th at 9 sites. For more info go to www.fullcirclefestival.com .  Musical performers will include the Blue Gardenias, Full Circle, the Social Band, and Jenni Johnson and the Junketeers.

On Sat. April 12th South African world music star Johnny Clegg and his band will perform at the Lebanon, NH, opera house at 7:30 p.m.  Doors open at 7:00 p.m.

 On Sat. April 12th , Two Shoes Off, featuring Susannah Blachly, George White, and Carter Stowell, perform at the Adamant Community Club. The music will start at 7:00 p.m. with an optional potluck starting at 5:30 p.m. before the show.

The Hopkins Center in Hanover, NH presents Bobby McFerrin on Sat. April 12th.

Robert Resnik has been the host of All the Traditions, Vermont Public's folk and world music show, since 1996. He is the winner of the 2019 Herb Lockwood Prize In the Arts, an honor that rewards the pinnacle of arts leadership in Vermont and is the recipient of the 2022 Margaret L Kannenstine Award for Arts Advocacy from the Vermont Council of the Arts.
