From Polly Wolly Doodle to Sydney Mines

We delve into a rich week of live local performances, hear some exciting new recordings, and get a sampling of the variety of music that is native to Cape Breton.

This week's calendar announcements:

Vermont songwriter Derek Burkins will perform at Shelburne Vineyards on Thursday December 5th from  6:00 - 8:30pm

Natalie McMaster will be performing her holiday-themed concert, “Christmas in Cape Breton” at the Barre Opera House on Wednesday December 4th and 7:30pm, and on Friday December 6th at the Latchis Theater in Brattleboro.

Carol Hausner and John Gibbons will perform on Wednesday, December 4th from 3 – 3:30 pm at the
Shelburne Museum’s  Pizzagalli Center for Art and Education.

Jim Rooney will perform with Colin McCaffrey at Bagitos in Montpelier on Thursday December 5th from 6:00-8:00pm.  Bagitos will also be presenting an Irish music session on Saturday December 7th from  2:00-:005pm with Sarah Blair, Katrina VanTyne, HilariFarrington Koehler, Benedict Koehler, and many other fine traditional Irish musicians

Leon Redbone will be preforming at La Sala Rossa (4848 St. Laurent) in Montreal on Tuesday September 3rd at 8pm

Tim Erickson will perform with Pumpkintown (57 Prince Arthur E.) at Petit Campus in Montreal on Saturday December 7th at 7:30pm

RIPTON COMMUNITY COFFEE HOUSE presents the Modern Grass Quintet on  Saturday, December 7th at 7:30 p.m. Open mic begins at 7:30 followed by the featured performers.

Miriam Bernardo and Jairo Sequeira will present a concert of Latin American protest songs on Monday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Southwick Recital Hall.

Back by popular demand, Palmer Street Coffeehouse in Plattsburgh welcomes singer/songwriter Patti Casey performing with Steve Light on Friday, Dec. 6. Doors open at 7pm.

The FlynnSpace will be presenting Winter tales, conceived by Mark Nash and featuring  music by Patti Casey  from December 12/4-12/8 We-Sa 7:30, Sa & Su 2:00pm

The Vermont Fiddle Orchestra will be presenting its annual Holiday Concert on Saturday, December 7th at 7 PM at the College Hall Chapel on the green at the Vermont College of Fine Arts on East State Street in Montpelier.
 
The Monadnock Folklore Society presents Nowell Sing We Clear, A Pageant of Mid-Winter Carols on Friday, December 6 at 8:00PM at the Dublin Community Church in Dublin, NH. Nowell Sing We Clear will also be performing at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Bennington on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m.

Brendan Taafe will hold CD release parties for his new recording  on Friday December 6th at Headroom Stages in Brattleboro at 7:30pm and on Saturday December 7th at Sweet Melissas in Montpelier at 9:00pm.

Freelance Family Singers will present a Holiday Concert at the First Congregational Church, 36 Elm Street, Woodstock at 7:00 PM on Saturday December  7th and 3:00 PM on Sunday December 8th.  

The Monadnock Folklore Society presents the Peterborough, NH First Saturday Contra Dance on December 7th, featuring Steve Zakon-Anderson calling with Dave Langford and Karen Axelrod.
 
Peter and Kristina Cady will perform at the Rutland Indoor Farmers' Market Saturday December 7th at 10:00am

Dave Keller will perform at a CD release party for his new recording Soul Changes at River Arts in Morrisville on Fri. December 6th

  

Robert Resnik has been the host of All the Traditions, Vermont Public's folk and world music show, since 1996. He is the winner of the 2019 Herb Lockwood Prize In the Arts, an honor that rewards the pinnacle of arts leadership in Vermont and is the recipient of the 2022 Margaret L Kannenstine Award for Arts Advocacy from the Vermont Council of the Arts.
