Clarinets And Celtic Colours

We celebrate Memorial Day, some marvelous local clarinetists, and even some musicians performing at this week's Discover Jazz Festival in Burlington.  We also get a taste of some of the music that we might encounter on VPR's trip to Cape Breton and the Celtic Colours music festival this October, and hear music related to the following upcoming concerts:

On Friday May 31st Mick McAuley and WinifredHoran (both members of Solas) and guitarist ColmO’Caoimh will perform at the Hooker-Dunham Theater & Gallery in Brattleboro.

The Ripton Community Coffee House presents singer-songwriter Caitlin Canty with Dietrich Strause on Saturday June 1 at 7:30 pm at the Ripton Community House, Route 125, Ripton.  Headliners will be preceded by the famous open mic session.

The Steel Wheels will perform at the Café Lena in Saratoga Springs on Tuesday, June 4th.

On Friday May 31st  Katie Trautz and Alec Ellsworth, 'Twin Fiddles and Country Songs,' will perform at the Whammy Bar in Calais at 7:30pm.

Rick Norcross and the Ramblers will perform at 3:00pm on Saturday June 1st at the VT Dairy Festival in Enosburg.

Woodchucks Revenge will perform at the Bees Knees in Morrisville for Sunday brunch on Sunday June 2nd at 11:00am.

Bobby McFerrin  will perform on the Flynn Center mainstage on Saturday June 1st at 8pm, and Branford Marsalis will be at the Flynn on Sunday June 2nd, also at 8pm.

French Canadian musicians David Boulanger, Eric Beaudry, and Jeremiah McLane will be performing a rare show together on June 2 at 7:00pm at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Barre.

The Monadnock Folklore Society presents a First Saturday contradance with Mary Wesley calling on Saturday June 1st.  Music by Pete Sutherland, Colin McCaffrey, and Oliver Scanlon – in the Peterborough, NH Town House at 8:00pm.

 

Robert Resnik has been the host of All the Traditions, Vermont Public's folk and world music show, since 1996. He is the winner of the 2019 Herb Lockwood Prize In the Arts, an honor that rewards the pinnacle of arts leadership in Vermont and is the recipient of the 2022 Margaret L Kannenstine Award for Arts Advocacy from the Vermont Council of the Arts.
