We've always marveled at the strength of the ant, but despite that, humans would much rather not have them around. The presence of the carpenter ant in a house usually has the occupant looking for a can of bug spray to take care of them. Woe is the lowly ant.
But maybe they just haven't had the right PR person. UVM Biology Professor Nick Gotelli explains why the ant is vital to our eco-system and gives us a peak at the 130 species of ants that roam our region. Gotelli is one of the authors of A Field Guide to the Ants of New England.
Also on the program, we stay within the insect world when we meet Vermont's new state entomologist, Alan Graham.
And we reach into our mailbag to read comments from our listeners.
