Transmission electron microscopic image of an isolate from the first U.S. case of COVID-19. Vermont health officials said Tuesday they tested three state residents for the virus, and all tests came back negative.

The Vermont Department of Health said Tuesday evening three Vermonters who had symptoms consistent with COVID-19 had all tested negative.  The department notes the risk of novel coronavirus to the American public generally remains low.

The health department is also working to identify anyone who might have had recent contact with a New Hampshire resident who tested positive for the disease.

The New Hampshire resident was at a private event at the Engine Room in White River Junction Friday night.  The department reports the individual was under New Hampshire officials’ direction to self-isolate, but attended the event.

Vermont health officials said they have worked with the Engine Room to clean and sanitize the space. Officials ask Vermont residents who were at the Engine Room on February 28 to call 802-863-7240.

The department also reports it is currently monitoring 84 people who have recently returned from travel to South Korea, Italy, Iran, Japan and China – and will now begin monitoring anyone who has had close contact with the individual in New Hampshire.

Seventeen people have completed monitoring so far without any signs of illness.
