Vermonters will be able to cast ballots in the state's August 9 primary beginning Friday.
Interest in the early voting system has grown over the years. Secretary of State Jim Condos says that in some general elections as many as 30 percent of all ballots were cast early.

"We're just trying to expand the ability of people to be able to vote and I think this offers that," Condos said. "It helps people who are busy who are traveling, who may be ill, whatever. It's secure and they can vote from their own kitchen table."
Condos notes that some states limit early voting to just one week before an election. He says Vermont's 45-day time frame is one of the most generous in the country.
Registered voters can request an early ballot from their town clerk by phone, by mail or online.
