New York State Legislature 2016 Session (Almost) Comes To A Close

Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin, R-Troy, explains his vote to members in the Assembly Chamber at the Capitol on Thursday in Albany, N.Y.

The New York State Legislature is wrapping up its session, one that's been chock full of bills, with some far-sweeping and controversial legislation on the agenda.

Some of the bills have gotten through; others are pending with legislation like banning toxins from toys, mandating minimum staffing levels for hospital nurses and legalizing daily fantasy sports, among items with fates too tough to predict.

The biggest and most contentious of bills include sweeping ethics reforms following the arrests and convictions of two former New York lawmakers, and a bill that would set a longer statute of limitations for people seeking compensation for problems related to water contamination, including from the suspected carcinogen PFOA.
