In a surprise development, the campaign of Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders says it hopes to debate with the presumed Republican candidate Donald Trump before the California primary on June 7.
Sanders invited former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to debate before the California primary but she turned him down. Now he's turning his attention to Donald Trump.
On Wednesday night, Trump said he would be open to a debate with Sanders particularly if money raised from the event could be given to charity.
Jeff Weaver, Sanders' campaign manager, says he thinks the match up is a great idea.
"I think that would be a fantastic opportunity for everybody involved," says Weaver. "I just think the viewership would be so high that I think it would really be the political TV sensation of the season frankly."
Weaver hopes to finalize plans for a Sanders Trump debate in the next few days.
