Vergennes Voters Want Trucks Re-Routed

Voters in the city of Vergennes say they want the Agency of Transportation to consider a change to the truck route to reduce traffic in the historic downtown.

The proposal would route northbound trucks onto Route 17 West in Addison to connect to U.S. Route 7 in New Haven. Southbound trucks would still use Route 22-A through Vergennes. The city mayor says 800 trucks per day come through the small city.

The Agency of Transportation has said it wants to know if other towns support the change. The Addison County Regional Planning Commission’s Transportation Board will discuss the plan later this month. The New Haven Select Board has said they oppose changing the truck route.
