Friday afternoon, Vermont state officials held a public meeting in North Bennington to discuss a potentially cancer-causing chemical found in three private wells in town.

Yesterday, Vermont state officials announced they had discovered a potentially cancer-causing chemical in some private water wells in North Bennington. The governor's office says test results revealed abnormally high levels of a chemical called PFOA in three residential wells there. It says the public drinking supply is not contaminated.

Friday afternoon, state officials held a public meeting at the North Bennington Firehouse to answer questions about the situation.

Reporter Howard Weiss-Tisman attended the public meeting and spoke with VPR from North Bennington about what officials had to say.

Annie Russell was VPR's Deputy News Director. She came to VPR from NPR's Weekends on All Things Considered and WNYC's On The Media. She is a graduate of Columbia Journalism School.
Alex was a reporter and host of VPR's local All Things Considered. He was also the co-host and co-creator of the VPR program Brave Little State.
Howard Weiss-Tisman is Vermont Public’s southern Vermont reporter, but sometimes the story takes him to other parts of the state.
