A New Rabbi For Vermont's Largest Jewish Congregation

Ohavi Zedek in Burlington - the largest and oldest Jewish congregation in the state - is being led by a new rabbi for the first time in 25 years.

The previous senior rabbi, Joshua Chasan was known, among other things, for being willing to take stands on controversial positions on issues like same-sex and interfaith marriages. He retired at the end of last year.

The new senior rabbi is Amy Small, who most recently led a congregation in Summit, New Jersey, and has served as President of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association. Ohavi Zedek had to obtain permission from the governing body of Conservative Judaism to select a rabbi from outside the denomination.

Vermont Edition's Jane Lindholm spoke to Rabbi Small about her new position.
