Former Putney Family Services Director Faces Embezzlement Charge

The former director of a Putney social service agency has been cited for embezzlement.

Patricia Field was executive director of Putney Family Services. According  to the Windham County Sheriff's office, Field was charged Jan. 28 with embezzling money from the nonprofit agency.

Putney Family Services is a small family advocacy, and support agency, that helps low income families with heat assistance, after school care and health care.

Kate Cleghorn is co-president of  Putney Family Services.

Cleghorn declined to talk about the investigation, though she assured donors that the agency's funds were secure.

"The people who have donated don't need to worry. The donations are intact. That's not the issue," she said.

Cleghorn says Putney Family Services will remain open and the staff will continue to work with families that need help.

"We're doing what we can. People can still call and get a variety of assistance. We don't have a navigator at the moment, but we're working on getting that piece back in place, and I think that will happen pretty soon."

Details on the alleged embezzlement were not available.

Field is scheduled to appear in court to answer to the charge on March 22.
