State Board Will Consider Four More Act 46 Merger Plans

The State Board of Education will consider four more proposed school district mergers at its January 19 meeting.

Act 46, the state's district consolidation law, offers significant tax incentives to districts that get their plans approved by voters before June 30.

At the meeting next week the board will consider consolidation plans from Addison Northwest, Lamoille North, Franklin Central and Addison-Rutland supervisory unions.

The board has already approved four other district consolidation plans.

Towns hoping to get a vote at this year's town meeting need to have the plans approved by the state board this month to get them on the town meeting warnings.

Districts that manage to finish their plans in the next few months can schedule a special town meeting to beat the June 30 deadline.

The board is scheduled to meet at the U-32 Junior and Senior High School in East Montpelier next Tuesday.
