The Windham Wood Heat Initiative is offering a free public information forum on modern wood heating systems Monday, starting at 5:30 p.m.
The forum, which is being held at the Marlboro College Graduate Center in Brattleboro, is part of a larger effort to promote a robust wood-based economy in Windham County.
"Modern wood heating systems are low emission, high efficiency systems that provide much of the convenience of conventional fossil fuel boilers — without the fossil fuels," a press announcement states. "Heating with locally sourced, sustainably harvested, and renewable wood pellets provides numerous environmental, economic, and social benefits. These systems come in a wide range of sizes adaptable for residences as well as large commercial operations."
The Windham Wood Heat Initiative is funded through the Vermont Public Service Department’s Clean Energy Development Fund. It's led by a consortium of local and regional partners that was formed to assist municipal and school buildings in increasing energy efficiency and converting to wood heating systems.
"This work is part of a greater vision to build local economic capacity and turn Windham County into a hub of modern wood heat," the release states. "This comprehensive approach to economic development of wood heat includes integration of a robust supply chain infrastructure and expanded local markets, all of which is supported by highly trained professionals."
