Hubbardton had such success with last year's 250th anniversary celebration that the town has decided to create a new annual event – Hubbardton Days. The first Hubbardton Day is set for Saturday, July 18.
The celebration starts at 4 p.m. at the Hubbardton Battlefield, on Monument Hill Road. There are activities scheduled for both children and adults, including games for people of all ages as well as a horseshoe throwing contest and a women's frying pan throwing contest.
"This event was held last year and drew 23 competitors and is bound to again, draw a lot of attention," an event news release said of the frying pan toss. Cash prizes will be awarded to winners of the adult contests.
Food vendors will be on hand, with offerings ranging from fried dough to an all-out pig roast. Other events include raffles, music and professional face painting.
Music includes the Mt. Independence Seth Warner Fife and Drum Corps and the Poultney Bluegrass Society. Gypsy Reel takes center stage at 7 p.m. The evening ends with a fireworks display which organizers promise will rival last year's 250th celebration.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. In the event of rain, the celebration will be held the on Sunday.
