The Vermont State Police worked a combined total of 465 overtime hours in the first week of searching and monitoring border crossings for the two convicted killers who escaped Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York, a spokesman said.
State Police spokesman Scott Waterman said Thursday that those hours were coded specifically in relation to the Dannemora escape for the pay period that ended Saturday, June 13. With an average hourly cost of $66.25 per hour, Waterman said the overtime cost the state $30,806.
That dollar figure doesn't include pay for troopers who spent their normally scheduled shift participating in the search, Waterman said.
Gov. Peter Shumlin said last Wednesday that state police had deployed marine units to patrol on Lake Champlain. Waterman said those patrols have since stopped.
